PENSION COURSE - May 10, 2008

The Vancouver Local will be offering a Pension Course on Saturday, May 10, 2008, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The course will take place at the Vancouver Local union Hall at 1079 Richards Street in Vancouver.

Those interested may leave their names, phone numbers and approximate retirement date at the Hall, or EMAIL the Education Committee. There are no book-offs available for this course. Preference will be given to those retiring in the immediate future. There will be more pension courses scheduled in the near future.

Basic Shop Steward Course (Vancouver Local)
This course is designed to give you some basic skills in assisting your co-workers. Spaces are limited so preference will be given to newly elected Shop Stewards who have not yet participated in a Shop Stewards course. If you require a book-off for those days, please indicate that when you apply.

Date: February 28 & 29, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Spring Education - March 14, 15, 16, 2008 - Naramata.
The Pacific Region's spring education will be held in naramata this year. The courses run March 14 to 16, 2008.

The 4 courses being offered this spring will be:

BASIC SHOP STEWARD - URBAN
This course is for members wanting to become a shop steward, or just to have a better understanding of the rights and duties of a shop steward. You will also learn how to protect our sisters and brothers on the work floor.

BASIC SHOP STEWARD - RSMC
This course is for members wanting to become a shop steward, or just to have a better understanding of the rights and duties of a shop steward. You will also learn how to protect our sisters and brothers on the work floor.

HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Are you a new member or alternate to a Local Joint Health and Safety Committee? If so, this is the course for you. Learn the Union's reponsibility and role on these Committees.

INTRODUCTION TO WCB
This is a basic course for Shop Stewards. The Goals of the course are:

  • demystify the workers compensation process and how it works
  • identify our rights as workers

PEL 5-Day Leadership Training Course
The course is designed for Local Activists and Shop Stewards who have completed the Basic Shop Steward Course and wish to gain additional skills to be more effective representatives for the Union on the work floor and in their Local, including their roles as an educator, organizer, leader, advocate and communicator.

Date: February 19 to 24, 2008

Location: Naramata, B.C.

Letter Carrier Route Measurement.
This course will be held at the Vancouver Local Union Hall, 1079 Richards. Preference will be given to June/July course participants who were denied leave. Please send/fax in application to attn: Janet Askin.
